Berlin

Sobre o evento

The inaugural conference of the Maria Sibylla Merian Centre Conviviality-Inequality in Latin America aimed to present and discuss the Centre’s research perspective on conviviality in unequal societies in Latin America and the Caribbean with consortium partners, scholars, representatives of research institutions and the academic public in Germany.

The first day introduced the network of institutions involved in the project and the concept of the Maria Sibylla Merian Centres. A keynote lecture by Arjun Appadurai addressed the contemporary debates on conviviality with the topic “The risk of dialogue”. The second day continued to explore the conceptual and empirical challenges for studying conviviality in unequal societies. The keynote lecture by Ottmar Ette addressed the topic “Stupid thinking and conviviality. Living together in Transarchipelagic worlds”. Both analytical and methodological issues were raised, while special attention was given to convivial contexts in Latin America and the Caribbean from a global perspective.
